We are currently seeking nine artists of all disciplines to launch our inaugural Community Supported Art program this summer. Mediums include but are not limited to music, written word, food, jewelry, clothing, photography, craft beer or wine, sculpture, pottery, screen printing, painting, plays, or performance art. Collaborations between artists or work by collectives are also welcome.
HOW IT WORKS
Shareholders and artists will also be invited to engage in pick-up events scheduled at local sites throughout the summer. Each event will feature local food, music, and entertainment.
Some examples of possible “shares” created by artists and received by shareholders may include a limited edition of a vinyl 7”, a run of screen prints, a run of photographs, tickets to an upcoming original performance or event, letterpress editions of a poem or short story, or even small original paintings.
The official call for artists will be live in March 1, 2014 and can be found online at legalcreative.org or on The Legal Creative’s Facebook page. The call for artists closes on March 15, 2014. Artists should be prepared to work within a limited time frame and submit an artist’s statement, proposal, and work samples.
Shares will be on sale for $350 each beginning in May, 2014. A limited number of presale shares are available for $300 from now until May 1, 2014. Because shares will include 9 original, limited-run creations, they are limited to only 50 and are expected to sell out quickly.
MORE ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy seasonal food directly from local farms. With the same buy-local spirit in mind, Community Supported Art (CSArt) is a similar endeavor to support local art – both artists and collectors.
Our local CSArt program is modeled after the original program created by Springboard for the Arts and mnartists.org in Minnesota.
